I had to drive down to the Intercontinental-Lalit near the international airport at Sahar this morning. From my home in South Mumbai it took me a “staggering” 42 minutes, because if I had not encountered some familiar nemesis below the Andheri flyover, I would have been there at least five minutes earlier. Just a week ago, the thought of traversing that distance in anything less than 90 minutes would have seemed as impossible as Prakash Karat writing an obituary on Michael Jackson. Or Mayawati lecturing on the evils of idolatory. The Bandra-Worli Sea link is Mumbai’s belated attempt at resurrecting itself from the anarchic mess it’s infrastructure has become. Fortunately, there is hope yet.
As Mumbai gets ready for a much-required facial treatment, it is indeed silly that the naming of the bridge should become controversial.
A fuller article follows soon. Have had a long week hence the sporadic writing and the long leave. But like the Congress, we will be back.
