Gujarat Congress today, issued an 18-point “chargesheet” against Narendra Modi government accusing it of practising loot, corruption and adopting anti- people policies in the poll bound state.
It also alleged that BJP led government has lost faith of the people of Gujarat.
“The available data collected through different sources including queries under RTI Acts, shows that the Modi government has only made tall claims of development before the people, while depriving them in reality,” said Leader of Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil while addressing media here.
Congress leadership today released the “chargesheet” carrying 18 points against Chief Minister Narendra Modi led BJP government, including that of misleading the people of the state in the name of development, safety, providing affordable housing, health, education, amongst others.

Terming claim of Modi that he was responsible for the ‘widespread’ development in the state as an insult to six crore Gujaratis, Gohil said, “Development has been DNA of Gujarat and if there is any such development had taken place in the state, credit should go to the people.”
“The present Chief Minister has hurt the feelings of Gujaratis by taking undue credit for himself for the development of the state, which in-fact is a result of hard-work and commitment of each and every citizen of Gujarat,” he said.
He also claimed that before Modi took over state had an enriching history of high economic growth rate and during 1960-1980 growth rate of GDP in the state remained in two digits, while in 1975-76 growth rate was of 28.50 per cent which was highest in the state.
Congress also alleged that, “BJP government has indulged in so much borrowing and debt that today every citizen of Gujarat is indebted by Rs 23,224. Per head tax paid by citizens is Rs 8,482 and yet they are indebted with per capita much higher debt.”
Similarly, Congress has charged Modi government for depriving state population of their right to education, right to food and right to employment.
Charging’ Modi government of resorting to corruption the ‘chargesheet’ claims that during the rule of Modi there was corruption worth Rs 1 lakh crore in 17 scandals and still state government was adamant in not appointing Lokayukt in the state.
“If Modi claims that he doesn¿t take bribe and doesn¿t allow others too, then why he is not appointing Lokayukt,” asked Gohil.
GPCC President Arjun Modhwadia, while talking to newsmen in Ahmedabad and releasing the chargesheet, said, “In five year rule of Modi government over 11,391 children have gone missing or kidnapped, which is a record in the state as well as in country.”
“The irony is state police and administrative machinery is busy making his (Modi’s) political programme a success,” he alleged.
As many as 12.55 lakhs offences have been registered under various sections of IPC, he said.
On the development front Bihar has pipped Gujarat with a GSDP of 14.5 per cent. Gujarat GSDP is hovering at 9.5 per cent, Modhwadia claimed adding that the growth rate of Gujarat has been higher during the Congress rule.
Around 57,000 small-scale industries have shut down in the state during the Modi led BJPs rule in the state. The Congress had set up 180 industrial estates during its rule, while Modi government could set up only two, Modhwadia claimed.
Gujarat ranks fourth in public debt with Rs 1,40,238 crore in India, and around 20 per cent of tax income of the state goes in repaying interest on this debt, he claimed.
He also alleged that Gujarat ranks low on Human Development Index(HDI) as 45 per cent children are underweight, and 55 per cent women are anaemic.
The state ranks 11th in HDI index, he said.
Modhwadia claimed that maximum number of farmers had committed suicide in Gujarat.
“In reply to a RTI query it was revealed that 7,000 farmers and 9,000 farm workers had committed suicide, and heavy debt burden was cited reason behind the extreme step,” he said.
He alleged that “Gujarat government was having income of Rs 400 crore from tax levy on fertilizers, while the Centre was giving one lakh crore subsidy on the commodity in the interest of farmers.”
He also alleged that “land was being given away to industrialists in Modi’s BJP rule at throwaway prices which tantamount to corruption of nearly one lakh crore.”
