Well, we believe that a flourishing democracy requires multiple healthy and viable parties. So we welcome the BJP’s efforts to arrest the decline in its fortunes. But we hope that the BJP realizes that it has not just an “image problem” but a “substance problem,” … that until it gets rid of its divisive agendas, until it thinks of all Indians as equal instead of privileging Hindus alone, until it atones for its track record of communal violence, all its efforts at reform will remain cosmetic makeovers and nothing more.
